Round two of Cyclone Freddy has left a trail of destruction, flooding and death in central Mozambique, notably the Zambézia province, as it heads into neighbouring Malawi.
According to media reports, at least five people died as on Sunday Cyclone Freddy made a second landfall in Quelimane, the provincial capital, in less than a month. The cyclone also brought down communications and electricity supply were cut in the path of the storm – by Monday afternoon, communications had been partially reestablished.
Lots of houses made of local material were destroyed, leaving lots of people without shelter.
The extent of the damage is yet to be determine but the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) put at about half a million the number of people likely to be affected.
