Machipanda–Forbes Border Post: Mozambique Advances as Zimbabwe Lags?

The Mozambican government has awarded a 25‑year public‑private partnership to two Chinese firms to build and operate the new one‑stop border post at Machipanda, the gateway linking the central port city of Beira to Zimbabwe’s interior. The structure of the deal is straightforward: the two logistics Chinese companies, Union Portlink Capital and Zhongmei Engineering Group, hold the majority stake, the Road Fund contributes 15 percent, and Mozambican private investors complete the shareholding. Construction is expected to begin in October 2026, with a projected cost of $30 million. Timeline: Chang extradited to the US

Former Mozambican Finance Minister Manuel Chang has finally been extradited to the United States after a protracted extradition battle played out in South African courts.

On Wednesday, South Africa’s Justice and Correctional Services surrendered Chang to US Marshals Service, who promptly flew him to the US, where he is to be tried on charges of fraud.
