Mozambique’s ruling Frelimo party Central Committee has given government’s performance in 2022 a positive score.

The party’s highest body between congresses, the Central Committee is meeting on the second of a two-day meeting to discuss a plethora of issues related to the life of Frelimo. Speaking on Saturday at a press conference, party spokesperson Ludmila Maguni said that the Central Committee sees “government’s performance is very positive.”

“Even with all the discussions surrounding TSU (Single Salary Table), government has managed to clarify its nuance; it’s a complex process but is a necessary process since the main reason for its implementation is to ensure that we have wage justice in the public sector,” said Maguni.

TSU is a public sector salary structure, replacing 103 tables with 21 different pay scales.

Comment

Observers point out that the rosy picture of governance painted by Frelimo contrasts with reality. Take the example given by Maguni, the TSU, its implementation has been terrible. Doctors, Teachers and even Finance Ministry’s civil servants went on a strike or threatened to strike. Two weeks ago, the Ministry said that the implementation was at 90 per cent.

Furthermore, government has had to deal with various challenges that hampered its ability to deliver adequate services to the population.

Consequently, it would seem as if government sees the country through tainted glasses.
